Letter to a Lady was a solo created for Carmen de Lavallade by John Butler to music by Maurice Ravel. It was one of three pieces that Alvin Ailey added to the repertoire for Ms. de Lavallade for the Southeast Asia tour in 1962. At the time of the tour, the company was named the De Lavallade-Ailey Company.
