Choreographer
My’Kal Stromile’s extensive training includes instruction from Kim Abel, Ceyhun Ozsoy, and former AILEY dancer, Dereque Whiturs; as well as Anna-Marie Holmes at The School of Jacob’s Pillow. He attended The Juilliard School from 2014–2018, under the direction of Larry Rhodes, earning a BFA in Dance Performance.
Stromile has performed with Bruce Wood Dance, Disney Productions, and Repertory Dance Company I. His repertoire includes William Forsythe’s Playlist EP, Aszure Barton’s return to patience, Crystal Pite’s Grace Engine, Dwight Rhoden’s Rise, and Jerome Robbins’ MOVES. In 2014, he was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, an honor awarded by President Barack Obama. That same year, at the invitation of TITAS Presents and choreographer Bruce Wood, Stromile performed in the 2014 Command Performance Ballet Gala, alongside principal dancers from around the world.
During his time at Juilliard, Stromile received Choreographic Honors for three consecutive years and was awarded the school’s Hector Zaraspe Prize in Choreography in 2018. That same year, he joined Boston Ballet II (BBII), where he made two works, and in 2019, he joined Boston Ballet as an artist, where he danced until December 2024 and became a Princess Grace Award Nominee during his tenure.
At Boston Ballet, he was featured in George Balanchine’s Chaconne, William Forsythe’s Blake Works III (The Barre Project), Nanine Linning’s La Voix Humaine and La Mer, and Helen Pickett’s Tsukiyo and Petal.
In 2023, Stromile choreographed Form and Gesture for Boston Ballet. In 2024, Stromile created Variations on Rachmaninov and Countersignature at The Juilliard School, as well as Catch/Release for Calvin Royal III’s UNITE Ballet Festival at The Joyce Theater. In October 2024, he was commissioned to choreograph Word for Word for the Paris Opera Ballet, collaborating with fashion house, CHANEL. That same year, he participated in the New York Choreographic Institute at New York City Ballet, marking his transition into choreography full-time. Stromile, at the invitation of Damian Woetzel, premieres a new work at Vail Dance Festival in August 2025. Third Person Point of View for AILEY II also premieres in 2025, as well as a new creation for Juilliard’s New Dances program in December 2025. A new work for Boston Ballet will premiere in March 2026.
