Heidi Miller, Associate Director of Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs

Heidi Miller (MFA) is the associate director of Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs. Miller spearheads the development and expansion of the AileyDance for Active Aging program; contributes to the department’s special projects, professional learning initiatives and hiring of artists; and manages a portfolio of AileyDance Kids and AileyDance for Active Aging programs. As a dancer and native New Yorker, Miller had the opportunity to study with some of the greats, and most memorably had the privilege of learning a solo from Donald McKayle. She has taught dance and aesthetic education extensively in K–12 public school classrooms and in higher education, including Hunter College School of Education where she taught dance integration at the graduate level.

At Lincoln Center Institute, she recruited, trained, and conducted professional development of the visual and performing arts teaching faculty. There she also served as lead facilitator of the Institute’s Consultancies and Educator Workshops, both nationally and internationally. Audiences for these arts-in-education initiatives included artists, educators, school and district administrators, and directors and staff of museums and performing arts organizations.

As a consultant, Miller served as an evaluator for 92NY and NYC Public Schools and has written online curriculum for PBS LearningMedia. Through museums and arts-in-education organizations, Miller conducted numerous teaching artist training and professional development programs for both arts and general educators.
