This summer, we are offering internships in Production, Development, Public Relations, Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, Ailey Extension, Finance, and Legal. While this is a paid opportunity, we are unable to provide housing. We do collaborate with schools so that interns can receive academic credit and are able to take dance and fitness classes at Ailey Extension at no charge.

Ailey Extension was founded to continue Alvin Ailey’s legacy that “dance came from the people and should be delivered back to the people” by offering open dance classes for all experience levels. For the last 19 years, the Extension has brought together people of all backgrounds to train with renowned dance instructors from around the world at the home of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. The Extension’s programming includes weekly adult dance classes, special workshops, student performances, kids & teens classes, seminars, and private groups.
The Ailey Extension team is collaborative and multi-faceted—Extension team members work in scheduling, customer service, operations, production, finance, data analytics, marketing, and more. Ailey Extension is looking for an intern with a strong interest in arts administration looking to gain hands-on experience.

AileyCamp Newark offers a fun-filled six-week summer day camp where young people ages 11–14 learn to dance and explore their creativity. The program helps youth develop their self-confidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and trust. Campers take dance classes from experienced teaching artists in popular styles such as West African, jazz, ballet, and Horton technique (which is the basis of many of Alvin Ailey’s works). Campers also participate in workshops to build leadership and communication skills and enjoy a variety of athletic and social activities.
AileyCamp Newark is looking for dedicated, hands-on interns who want to make a difference in a child’s life while learning the administrative responsibilities of running a summer day camp. The internship runs through the summer and will require 28–35 hours per week, Monday through Friday (4–5 days). All interns are required to attend a 2-day orientation prior to the start of AileyCamp. AileyCamp Newark takes place off-site at Arts High School in Newark, NJ, from July 1–August 8, 2025.
AileyCamp Newark interns will be supervised by the Group Leader, both reporting to the AileyCamp Newark Co-Directors. The AileyCamp interns’ primary role will be to assist campers with class content, dance skills, choreography, and activities as needed. Group Leaders will assist dance instructors or facilitators with classroom management, monitor campers’ behavior, and act as a liaison between campers, faculty members, the Guidance Counselor, and AileyCamp Co-Directors with assistance from the AileyCamp intern as needed.

Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation (AILEY) is seeking a Development Operations Intern reporting to the Director of Development Operations within the Development department. The Development Operations Intern is an organized and personable collaborator who will work to support the general fundraising operations projects in the Development department. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with working in groups, have an excellent attitude and demeanor overall, and be an adaptive person who is able to multi-task and thrive in a high-energy, professional work environment.

The Office of General Counsel is interested in two half-summer legal interns (6 weeks each, 1–2 days a week, one in the first half of the summer beginning the week of/before Memorial Day, and the other beginning mid-July) interested in hands-on experience to obtain a general sense of what in-house general practice is like at a nonprofit. Students participating in this internship will be exposed to a wide range of legal matters that arise at a fast-paced performing arts organization. Legal issues may include labor and employment, governance, contracts, litigation, copyright, safety, real estate, tax, and data privacy matters. Throughout the internship experience students will receive support and guidance to build a career in law.

The Public Relations department is looking for a motivated, responsible, and personable intern to support ongoing public relations initiatives. The position will provide support to the Public Relations team in implementing the organization’s public relations efforts, including the execution of publicity campaigns for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, The Ailey School, Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, Ailey Extension, and Special Events. Depending upon schedule and areas of interest, the Public Relations Intern can play a key role in certain areas of responsibility.
